The John and Colleen Coutts Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the lives and legacies of John and Colleen Coutts. John and Colleen greatly valued education and giving back to their community in any way they could. They both gave back to the community in different ways.

Colleen was a dedicated career counselor at Durham High School for many years. She worked tirelessly to push her students to strive for success and continue their educational journey. This scholarship in John and Colleen’s name aims to support students who exhibit the same passion for learning and life that Colleen had.

Many were aware of Colleen’s tireless efforts, but John was quietly generous. He did not want acknowledgment for his efforts. He just wanted to do what he could to set anyone he encountered up for success.

Colleen was in the beginning stages of creating a Coutts scholarship before her sudden passing. Her sons Daniel and John picked up where she left off to ensure both of their parents’ kind ways of giving back to the community continue to live on through the educational journey of students for many years to come.

We encourage students to apply for this scholarship as a way to continue John and Colleen’s dedication to education and to support those who strive to make a positive impact in their fields of study. Contributions to the fund are welcomed to help sustain this opportunity for future generations.
