2023-2024 ANNUAL REPORT

LOOKING BACK

The past 12 months signaled a momentous but expected transition for North Valley Community Foundation.

The biggest operational change was winding down the Butte Strong Fund grant program. NVCF announced in early 2023 that it would be the final year of Butte Strong Fund grants because most of the donations to the Camp Fire relief fund had been granted back into the community. NVCF and its funding partners – Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Aaron Rodgers – did one more year of large grants, ending in December.

All told, NVCF has granted out more than $67 million for projects and case management since the Camp Fire on Nov. 8, 2018.

Disaster response continued on several fronts this past year. NVCF, the Dixie Fire Collaborative and the Almanor Foundation are funding recovery projects in Plumas County. Our drought relief program provides water deliveries for more than 200 households with dry wells in Glenn and Tehama counties.

Our CARE Team, a suicide prevention program that pairs at-risk young people with adult coaches, has helped more than 300 families. We added new coaches this year as the need continues to grow.

NVCF wrapped up its leadership program, Lead, after two years of hands-on learning through the Community Leadership Program and Nonprofit Institute.

NVCF worked with three economic and community development organizations to identify projects in Colusa County to receive state funding through the California Jobs First initiative.

The heart of NVCF continues to be the same component that has driven the foundation for the past 20 years – our more than 500 funds. Community members come to NVCF with their desire to do something good in the world. We work with them to refine the idea and open a fund, then huddle them under our nonprofit umbrella so they can raise money for their charitable cause.

Our funds are the foundation of the North Valley Community Foundation.

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

As these days turn into months, months into years, all that undaunted idealism and hope in humanity I carried with me into NVCF 19 years ago remains intact. In fact, after what I’ve seen here, after what we’ve all been through, I’m not sure a test exists that could sway my opinion of us. Of you.

We are so good. Humans. Us. You.

I meet you all the time. I sit beside you as you tell me your dream to make the world a little better. To help your neighbors. To support total strangers. Your kindness is inspiring. Your tenderness, my favorite language.
