August Trainings Help Local Nonprofits During Hard Times

Chico, California (August 6, 2009) – Local nonprofit leaders have the opportunity to participate in two trainings in August provided by the Nonprofit Leadership Institute, a program of North Valley Community Foundation. On Monday, August 17, the topic will be “Securing Your Future; How to Integrate Planned Giving Throughout Your Nonprofit.”  On Friday, August 21, the topic will be “Collaboration as a Grant Strategy for Small Non-Profits in a Highly Competitive Environment.”

“Securing Your Future; Integrating Planned Giving into your organization” is a half day session, from 8:30AM – 12:30PM, on Monday, August 17. The best planned giving program is a simple planned giving program that provides donors an opportunity to include nonprofits in their estate planning. If you can do a few simple things, you can increase the likelihood of receiving a planned gift. If you are an “in the trenches” executive, fundraising or development staff person (or board member) and want some concrete steps you can take to start and sustain your planned giving program, this is for you. The cost for the half day session is $60.The trainer for this session is Maureen Pierce, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club, with over 30 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the community.

“Collaboration as a Grant Strategy for Small Non-Profits” will be held from 8:30AM-12:30PM, on Friday, August 21. This class is designed to assist local smaller non-profits in securing outside funding through partnerships with other organizations and to secure funding for innovative and collaborative new projects that will help your non-profit stay viable and grow  in these difficult economic times.  How to access the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Obama Administration Federal Economic Stimulus funding) will be presented.  Case studies will be reviewed.  A successful funding proposal will be shared.  Real- time writing activity and group networking will be included.  Surviving in 2009 and beyond is the goal of this presentation by Juri Brilts, former CEO of a county-wide  United Way social service agency; CEO of a Sacramento non-profit arts organization; and City  of Chico Arts Commission Chairman. The cost for this class is $60.

Both of these classes will help nonprofits to respond to the current economic difficulties. If you are a board member or executive staff of a nonprofit, you won't want to miss these trainings.  These classes are suited for the executive director, fundraising staff, chair of the fundraising committee, board members or for those thinking of making a career in a nonprofit. With revenues declining, these classes can help nonprofits maximize their fundraising effectiveness.

Both trainings are in Chico, at the Training Place on the Chico Campus of Butte Community College, 2320 Forest Avenue. The half day trainings take place from 8:30AM-12:30PM and cost $60 per person.
