Community Foundation Offers Training for Nonprofits – Is it all about the Money?

Chico, California (October 7, 2008) – On November 7, local nonprofit leaders will have the opportunity to participate in a training provided by the Nonprofit Leadership Institute, a program of North Valley Community Foundation. The training topic will be “Resource Development for Nonprofits: Is it all about the money?”

Who should enroll in this class? This one-day class guarantees a good overview of what is needed to begin or continue to raise money for your cause. This class is suited for the executive director, fundraising staff, chair of the fundraising committee, board members or for those thinking of making a career in a nonprofit. For a small fee, hundreds of dollars can be saved in mistakes, expensive consulting, or trips to the big city for training.

Resource Development for the Nonprofit Organization: Is it all about the money? Fundraising is rarely seen as a perk of working at a nonprofit organization. More grey hairs and furrowed brows come from raising money than from anything else. This training will help organizations deal with the seemingly endless shortage of operating and program funds. Participants will learn ways to improve annual fundraising, including special events, direct mail, and major donor efforts.  Laura Cootsona, the Coordinator of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute will introduce the topics of planned giving and capital campaigns. The course will provide new ways of planning, creative ways to shift old habits, and methods to communicate the organization’s story to increase community awareness and financial support. This class benefits both staff and board members regardless of organizational size.

“We are seeing wild success in the nonprofit sector from these sessions.  Laura Cootsona not only provides relevant and engaging information, but helps participants develop strategies for immediate implementation,”  states Alexa Valavanis, CEO of North Valley Community Foundation.

The training will take place from 9AM-4:30PM on Friday Nov. 7, in Chico, in The Training Place at the Butte College Chico Campus. The cost of this training is $100 per person. For further details and registration for this training, contact NVCF at 891-1150 ex 23. Online registration is also available at www.nvcf.org.  Reservations should be made in advance, as space is limited.
