From ChicoSol's Founder, Leslie Layton
ChicoSol is a bilingual Webzine running stories written by both professional journalists and student writers. Please visit us at www.chicosol.org and check out our nifty language button in the upper left corner of the screen that allows readers to view articles in English or Spanish. And please subscribe (it’s free) and send us ideas and feedback.
We’re exploring social issues like poverty, gang violence and mental illness, all the while providing a crossover publication for Spanish-speaking readers as well as English-speaking readers interested in the issues we cover and/or Latino culture.
We have three goals: 1) provide the community with more coverage of social issues through reporting, writing and article distribution; 2) support young writers by giving them a place to publish and a way to connect with professionals; 3) become a vehicle for community discussion. We’ve issued an invitation to nationally-renowned author and speaker Luis Rodriguez (see our lead story “A Man’s Mission”) to speak in Chico at a forum on gang violence.
We’re an all-volunteer operation, but have already distributed news articles to three area newspapers!
