North Valley Community Foundation Distributing Fire Donations

Chico, California (July 19, 2008) Proceeds from five new funds at North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) are being distributed on behalf of donors in response to recent wildfires in Butte County. These funds were created last month during the Humboldt Fire to provide community members with an opportunity to choose among several giving options. Once it was clear the Humboldt Fire was only one among many devastating events, the scope was immediately expanded to include all the local fires.
The current total of $7,000 from the Fire Victims’ Fund is being directed to help people who have lost their homes. Of this, $5,000 was from one anonymous donor. The current total of $334 from the Fire Disaster Response Fund is being directed to Caring Choices, the Neighborhood Church and Oroville Church of the Nazarene, local organizations responding to the fire and its aftermath. A total of $150 in donations for Red Cross is going to this organization that has taken a leadership role in helping fire victims. The current total of $2600 in donations for the North Valley Animal Disaster Group Fund is going directly to this local nonprofit organization that took responsibility for evacuation and care of animals during the recent fires.
Finally, $10,000 has been directed from the Emil and Leonora Stiefvater Charitable Fund at NVCF for older adults who lost their homes in the recent fires.
“We are pleased to be able to offer donors an opportunity to respond to this local disaster in a variety of ways,” states Alexa Valavanis, NVCF CEO. “We have already received more than $20,000 toward this effort, and we expect more.”
In addition, all five funds are participating in the Annie B’s Community Drive, starting August 1. All donations made between August 1 and September 30 will be supplemented with grant funds through North Valley Community Foundation. As much

as $150,000 is expected to be distributed to all participating nonprofit organizations. Last year, an additional 14% was added to donations received through Annie B’s.
